Her Name in Diamonds: The 14 Karat White Gold Liberty Diamond Nameplate
A Gift From a Mother to Her Daughter
Some of the most meaningful pieces we make start with a parent. This client came to AJ’s Jewelry wanting to give her daughter something she could wear every day and keep for the rest of her life: her daughter’s name, Liberty, written in flowing script, traced in diamonds and made in 14 karat white gold.
We carry a wide range of name necklaces ready to personalize, but she had something more in mind — a nameplate designed from scratch, with natural diamonds running through every letter, and the chance to see exactly how it would look before it was made.
Designing the Script
The nameplate was drawn in CAD as one continuous piece of script — the sweeping capital L, the joined lowercase letters and the looped tail of the y — with a jump ring built into each end, so the chain attaches cleanly and the name sits level at the neckline.
Each stroke was then lined with diamonds. The design file’s gem report counts every stone: 134 round diamonds in two sizes, 1.3 and 1.0 millimeters, for a total of approximately 0.83 carats. The larger stones run through the broad strokes and the smaller ones follow the narrow turns of the script, so the sparkle stays continuous from the first letter to the last.
A Rendering for Her Approval
Before anything was made, we sent the client a rendering of the nameplate. A rendering shows how the finished piece will read — the depth of the letters, the prongs holding each diamond and the way the script flows — and gives the client the chance to ask for changes while they are still easy to make.
The rendering shows the form and the diamond layout; the nameplate itself was made in 14 karat white gold. The client approved the design, and it went into production.
Natural VS Diamonds in 14 Karat White Gold
Every stone in the Liberty nameplate is a natural diamond of VS clarity — a grade at which any inclusions are difficult to see even under 10x magnification. In stones this small, clarity matters more than you might expect: across 134 diamonds, cleaner stones mean a brighter, more even sparkle along the whole name.
14 karat white gold was the natural choice for the setting. Its bright white color frames the diamonds without adding warmth, so the stones and the metal read as one clean, brilliant line of script. Each diamond was set by hand at the bench and checked so it sits level with the stones around it.
The Finished Nameplate
The finished Liberty nameplate hangs from a fine cable chain, her name written in diamonds and white gold — made to be worn every day and kept for a lifetime. A gift from a mother that her daughter will carry with her.
