The Same Love, A New Shape: The 14 Karat Gold Round Name Pendant

A Client Who Came Back With Another Design

The best client relationships at AJ’s Jewelry are the ones that continue — where a first project leads to a second because the first one delivered exactly what was hoped for. When this client returned to us, the context was already familiar. We had previously made him a 14 karat gold floral name pendant — a piece built from his own lapel pin artwork, translated faithfully into gold as a gift for his significant other. That pendant had been exactly what it was meant to be: a piece of his own creative identity, made wearable and made personal for the person he loved.

Now he was back with another design. The same client, the same recipient, the same thoughtfulness behind the commission — and a new piece of artwork that called for a different pendant form. Where the first pendant had followed the organic, flowing outline of a floral design, this one was built around a circle — a round name pendant with its own distinct visual character, produced with the same precision and care as the piece that preceded it.

The Design: A Different Shape, The Same Personal Standard

The round format for a name pendant is one of the most refined and considered choices in personalized jewelry. Where the floral pendant’s shape was defined by the organic curves of its design, the round pendant imposes a clean, geometric discipline on everything within it — the name contained within a perfect circle, the composition unified and balanced by a form that is both timeless and immediately elegant.

For a client who had already demonstrated the level of thought and intentionality he brought to his first commission, the round format was a natural evolution — a different expression of the same creative identity, suited to a design whose character called for the clean containment of a circle rather than the expressive freedom of a custom silhouette.

The client arrived with the artwork already in hand and specific size requirements already established — the same approach that had made the first pendant project as clean and efficient as it was. He knew what he wanted, he knew the dimensions he needed, and he brought both to the conversation ready to move forward.

The Artwork: Clean, Specific, and Ready to Work With

As with the floral pendant before it, what distinguished this project from the very start was the quality of what the client brought in. The artwork for the round name pendant was clean — its composition clear, its linework defined, and its overall design organized in a way that made the conversion to vector art both faithful and straightforward.

The client’s specific size requirements were equally valuable. A round pendant is defined by its diameter — every element of the design inside it, from the name lettering to any additional detail within the circle, needs to be proportioned correctly for the specified size to read the way it should. Having those dimensions confirmed from the beginning meant the vector file could be built to the exact specifications the client had in mind, with the name and all interior elements scaled and placed to fill the circular format correctly at the finished size.

The combination of clean artwork and clear size specifications is what makes a laser pendant project move with confidence — and this client, having been through the process once before, brought exactly that.

From Artwork to Vector: Preparing the Design

With the artwork and size requirements established, the design was converted into a precise vector file — the format our laser engraving and cutting machine requires to follow the design with the accuracy and consistency the piece demanded.

The circular outline of the pendant, the name lettering within it, and any additional design detail inside the round format were all rebuilt as mathematically precise vector art — lines and curves defined exactly, the circle’s perimeter as clean and true as the geometric form requires, and the name lettering scaled and positioned within it at the client’s specified dimensions. The vector file was a faithful translation of the client’s artwork into a production-ready format — exact, precise, and ready for the laser.

For a round pendant specifically, the precision of the vector outline matters as much as the interior detail. The circle is a form that reveals any imprecision in its outline immediately — an irregular edge or an uneven curve is visible in a way that a more complex organic silhouette would obscure. The laser’s ability to follow a perfectly defined vector circle is one of the format’s greatest advantages for this kind of piece, and the clean vector file the artwork produced made full use of it.

Laser Engraved and Laser Cut in 14 Karat Gold

With the vector file finalized at the client’s specified dimensions, the pendant moved to our laser engraving and cutting machine — and the round name design began its transformation from digital artwork into 14 karat gold.

The laser first engraved the interior detail of the design into the gold sheet — the name lettering and any additional design elements within the circular format, all reproduced from the vector file with the precision the laser delivers. The name was engraved at the exact scale specified, legible and well-defined within the circular composition, every character sharp and consistent across the face of the pendant.

Once the engraving was complete, the laser cut the pendant out of the gold sheet — following the perfectly circular outline of the vector file and producing the round silhouette of the pendant with the clean, true edge that the geometric form demands. At the exact dimensions the client had specified, the finished cut pendant came off the machine as precisely what had been described in the brief — the right size, the right design, the right proportions.

Finished by Hand

From the laser, the pendant went to our bench jeweler for the finishing work that completes the piece. Edges were smoothed and refined, surfaces were polished, and the 14 karat gold was brought to the warm, rich finish that gives the metal its depth and character.

Against the polished gold surface, the engraved name and interior detail deepen in contrast — the lettering sharp and present against the reflective gold of the round disc, the overall pendant reading with the clean, warm elegance that a well-made round gold pendant in 14 karat delivers. The jump ring was attached, the piece was inspected against the client’s specified dimensions and the original artwork, and the pendant was confirmed complete.

Two Pendants, One Pair

What makes this commission particularly meaningful in the context of the one that preceded it is the relationship between the two pieces. The floral name pendant and the round name pendant are not simply two separate pieces of jewelry made for the same person. They are a pair — two different expressions of the same creative identity, both in 14 karat gold, both produced from the client’s own artwork, both gifts made with the same level of thought and intention.

The floral pendant follows the organic, expressive outline of its design. The round pendant contains its design within the clean geometry of a circle. Both carry the same name. Both share the same warmth of 14 karat yellow gold. And both exist because one person cared enough to take what he had already created and make it into something the person he loved could wear.

That is a pair worth having. And it is a pair that only a client who brought his own artwork, his own designs, and his own clear specifications to each commission could have produced.
